The results: Monday 14 January
The first Monday of competition at the Just World Indoor Bowls Championships saw two exciting semi finals for the Open Pairs title. Read our round-up below to discover who made it to the next stage of the tournament.
In a rerun of last year's Championships, the first semi final match of the day saw Scottish pair Colin Walker and Ronnie Duncan up against Paul Foster MBE and Alex Marshall MBE. The closely matched game went into a tie break, and it was Foster and Marshall who took the last end. Their win has secured them a place in the final next Monday, broadcast live on BBC Television.
The second Pairs semi-final of the day saw Mark Royal and the legendary Andy Thomson MBE up against World Number One Greg Harlow and Nick Brett. The first set gave Harlow and Brett the edge and they continued on excellent form throughout the match, winning their place to face Foster and Marshall in the final.
Monday also saw the start of the World Indoor Open Singles first round. Scotland’s Stewart Anderson, reigning Scottish International Open Champion, was up against Scottish Qualifier Colin Walker. Anderson took the first set 12,6 and, despite Walker fighting back hard, Anderson won and will be returning on Tuesday 22 January to play in the second round of the World Indoor Open Singles.
Other matches on Monday included a Preliminary Singles game between American Dan LeMessurier and Jordi Lo from Hong Kong, and another which saw Lawrence Hurwitz up against Andy Squire. LeMessurier and Squire won their matches.
